The Course of Love
by Alain De Botton
The Course of Love is a novel that explores what happens after the birth of love, what it takes to maintain love, and what happens to our original ideals under the pressures of an average existence. With philosophical insight and psychological acumen, Alain de Botton shows that our Romantic dreams may do us a grave disservice — and explores what the alternatives might be.
The conclusion, as the characters gradually discover, is that love is not “an enthusiasm,” but rather a “skill” that must be slowly and often painfully learned. This is a Romantic novel in the true sense, one interested in exploring how love can survive and thrive in the long term.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Course of Love. Alain De Botton gracefully takes us through a very real journey of love and life as we know it. He so cleverly wakes up the reader’s mind to what we ought to learn from love and ways to nurture our relationships. And it isn’t through what we’ve come to know thus far.
Mating in Captivity
by Esther Perel
Perel examines the complexities of sustaining desire in long term relationships. Through case studies and lively discussion, she demonstrates how mystery and familiarity can coexist in monogamous relationships. Wise, witty, and as revelatory as it is straightforward, Mating in Captivity is a sensational book that will transform the way you live and love.
I strongly recommend this book and even her Ted Talk on ‘The secret to desire in a long-term relationship’. Esther Perel has brilliantly tackled the intricacies of modern day relationships. I find her approach very useful and relevant to our time. It is one of the most honest and practical books I have read on improving the health of romantic relationships.
The Vortex, Where the Law of Attraction Assembles All Cooperative Relationships
by Esther & Jerry Hicks
This book uncovers a myriad of false premises that are at the heart of every uncomfortable relationship issue, and guides you to a clear understanding of the powerful creative Vortex that has already assembled the relationships that you have desired.
It delves into the subject of relationships from a different perspective, perhaps, than you have previously considered. The teachings contained in this book have to do with aspects of our relationships that are far broader and deeper than our everyday mindset.
I have grown to love the way Esther Hicks has been elaborating on The Law of Attraction and all of its applications. Even if you have never heard of such law or their work, you will tremendously enhance your connection and understanding of the metaphysical aspect of our existence. This is a practical book that is very real-time and relevant to the now!
One of my favorite concepts introduced by the authors, is our Emotional Guidance System and its purpose. I have been drawing inspiration from their material for many years and have witnessed the positive influence that it has had on people’s lives.
Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success: Discovering Your Gift and the Way to Life’s Riches
by Steve Harvey
Countless books on success tell you what you need to get that you don’t already possess. In Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success, Steve Harvey tells you how to achieve your dreams using the gift you already have. Every one of us was born with a gift endowed by our creator—something you do the best at with very little effort. While it can be like someone else’s, your gift is yours alone. No one can take it away. You are the only one who can use it—or waste it.
Just as you think, Steve Harvey is mainly focused on giving relationship advice to women, he surprises you with his wisdom on how to succeed in other areas of life too. My favorite chapter is chapter 6 (Knowing You Gift and Putting It into the Right Vehicle. He makes a very remarkable point on the significance of our innate gifts and how to infuse them with the right set of skills to make an impact & ultimately succeed. This concept makes my heart tick since I focus on helping you identify this gift in order to travel this journey with energy and enthusiasm for life. I enjoyed reading every page!
Y.O.U. & the Ultimate Life Tool: The Knowledge of Y.O.U.
by Dr. Zannah Hackett
The Knowledge of Y.O.U. and The Ultimate Life Tool will open your eyes to a whole new perspective on life. A new understanding and respect for yourself and human nature will manifest and life will simply make sense. It addresses the reality of one’s physicality as it positions itself to succeed in managing a business, resolving conflict, and overcoming interpersonal challenges.
This book teaches how to see one another from an objective place, without judgement or preconceived ideas. With the knowledge you gain from this book, one can begin to see themselves for ‘what’ they are vs ‘who’ they are. Our true nature, talents, disposition and perceptivity isn’t tied into our past, our reaction and behavioral tendencies are. In this book you will learn how to get to back to your authentic self.
The Time Keeper
by Mitch Albom
A compelling fable about the first man on Earth to count the hours. The man who became Father Time.
In Mitch Albom’s newest work of fiction, the inventor of the world’s first clock is punished for trying to measure God’s greatest gift. He is banished to a cave for centuries and forced to listen to the voices of all who come after him seeking more days, more years.
This book reminds us of the importance of being present in the now! Everything we do pretty much revolves around time to a point that we are either running out of time or wishing time would pass quicker. Through sharing several unrelated stories, we see how relative time is. My favorite line from the book is “Ends are for yesterdays, not tomorrows”.
Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self
by Sarah Ban Breathnach
In this insightful and eloquent book, Sarah Ban Breathnach explores the nine stages necessary to living authentically: Sensing, Surviving, Settling, Stumbling, Selling Out, Starting Over, Searching, Striving, and finally, Something More.
Using archaeology as her frame of reference, Ban Breathnach suggests imaginative exercises at the end of each chapter, which she refers to as “Field Work.” Although it occasionally feels overdone, the archaeology metaphor works well–helping readers unearth their past choices and circumstances to better understand the soul’s current mission.
I recommend this book to every woman. It is definitely an uplifting book in the most open and sincere way. Reading this book felt like, the author had handpicked the most incredible concepts and prepared them for the reader in the most understandable and comprehensive way. Many of the concepts were not knew. However, the way in which Sarah brings it all together makes this book a repeat read.
David & Goliath – Underdogs, Misfits, and The Art of Battling Giants
by Malcolm Gladwell
Why do underdogs succeed so much more than they should? How do the weak outsmart the strong? In David and Goliath Malcolm Gladwell takes us on a scintillating and surprising journey to uncover the hidden dynamics that shape the balance of power between the small and the mighty.
As Malcolm Gladwell says it himself; It’s all in the obvious. What he so openly presents in this book expands the reader’s mind to a new level of seeing the obvious. This brilliant book encompasses facts from historical underdogs and their transformation of their disadvantage into unexpected success.
This simple concept has played a huge part in the success of those who didn’t fit into the conventional roles of today’s society. He displays an intellectual argument against conformity and the massive achievements of underdogs among us. I have drawn tremendous wisdom from reading this book and have been applying the knowledge to everyday evaluations of seeming disadvantages in life.
by Robert Greene
In Mastery, Robert Greene mines the biographies of great historical figures such as Charles Darwin, Mozart, Paul Graham, Henry Ford, Benjamin Franklin, Freddie Roach, Marcel Proust, Temple Grandin and many more, for clues about gaining control over our own lives and becoming masters of our own powers.
In Mastery, Robert Greene presents the reader strategic and practical ways to achieve self mastery, as the high point of human potential. He shares key principals to attaining Mastery and the role it plays in creating success in business. Apprenticeship strategies, gaining social intelligence, transformative processes to recognize one’s calling and achieving goals are explained in detail with historical evidence. I enjoyed reading this book because of its clear and direct approach to breaking down a very important concept.
Power vs. Force: The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior
by David R. Hawkins M.D. Ph.D.
David R. Hawkins details how anyone may resolve the most crucial of all human dilemmas: how to instantly determine the truth or falsehood of any statement or supposed fact. Dr. Hawkins uses theoretical concepts from particle physics, nonlinear dynamics, and chaos theory to support his study of human behavior. This is a fascinating work that will intrigue readers from all walks of life.
Power Vs. Force is a very important book for all professionals in the field of human potential and development to read. The heart of Dr. Hawkin’s theory about human consciousness and applied understanding of the hidden determinant of human behavior is indisputable. The analysis of frequency and the effect on potential within man is an eye opener. In fact, the name 505 Living, was triggered by the level 500 of human consciousness as described in this book. Level “500” is the point at which the happiness and well-being of others eclipses self-interest and becomes the primary life motivation.
